photographer's DNA

Yesterday, I came upon a discovery about my photographic genes as I was cleaning out the storage. These were part of my dad's photo albums which I have not seen before. 6x4.5cm contact prints were carefully glued to the album according to the corresponding negative number. It was the typical work of my dad who probably used a ruler to line up all the pictures so precisely. What surprised me most was his composition of the images. I probably would have shot them in the same manner if I was taking pictures back then. I looked at these pictures as if I had shot them. My dad was a businessman and photography was one of the many hobbies he had. He passed away when I was young, so I never got the full story on his photography. I didn't even know he took so much interest in photography until I saw these images taken during the 50's and 60's in Europe. Looking back, my photography started when my dad gave me my first camera, a Nikon F2, at age 18 just before he passed away. I never thought of any connection there until I saw these images. I could sense alot of passion in his photography, and I could bet now that I inherited some of that in my DNA.

I take great pride in the work I produce, yet I have my days where I question myself whether I might have taken the wrong path in my career. Well, yesterday's revelation certainly made me feel I was cut out to be a photographer! I guess we're all on our path to destiny without even knowing it.

It is apparent from the prints he took a great deal of pride in his craft. They look quite wonderful - they are almost a time capsule. As an amateur photographer I would aspire to his level of precision in presentation. Thank you for sharing.

Thank you for yourkind comment! It was interesting to read about your family of photographers and how your father took offense for labeling him an amateur photographer. Well, my dad was an amatuer and I wonder how our relationship would've been had he been alive.

this is very interesting!

even though i don't agree with this theory(preordained destiny stuff),
your idea of DNA makes me think ...
in your case, you are indeed in the right path
it was in your blood!

by the way, thank you for your nice comment on my writing
i'm just not a writer, i'm very terrible on explaining things verbally
poetry and photography are two of few things that i can communicate easily through
