the day of the M9 quake

When the massive earthquake struck Japan, I was on a set 1.5 hours out of Tokyo. We had spent most of the morning setting the HMI lights up and just got started when the quake hit us. Most of us stood there waiting for it to stop but when things started falling off the ceiling, it was time to run. I grabbed my D3s and Mac Book Pro which contained whatever data I had shot and ran for the stairs. We lost the power so we packed it up. With no power for the elevator, I had to help the lighting crew haul tons of lighting & grip equipment down the stairs. What a work out, I' was so glad I've been working out at the gym. But the real challenge was getting back home. It took me 10.5 hours in bumper to bumper traffic to cover a distance that normally takes 1.5 hours. Still haven't made it back to finish the shoot due to the rotating blackouts and gas shortage.
