travel photos

I've discovered that there's alot of photo opportunities while waiting for flights at the airport or sitting on long flights. That's good because I can be productive now while killing time and reducing the agony of travel.
I've always liked road movies, and documentary photos of presidents or famous musicians on the road to somewhere. If you start thinking about all the people travelling, there's quite a bit of drama there. A while back I shot shadows of travellers casted by the late afternoon sun on an airport wall. It was two dimensional and very graphic. While you couldn't see the people, there was enough information in the shadow where you could tell alot about who this was.
In a similar way, I like the first picture above because of its graphic nature where the shapes and lines are what makes the photo interesting, especially with the ascending line of people on the escalator.
I like the picture above of my cousin and her daughter taken during a flight because again, it's sort of minimalistic while it captures a moment like that famous picture of JFK's son playing underneath JFK's desk at the Oval Office.
All these photos were taken with a Panasonic Lumix digital point and shoot on auto mode. Although there are many cameras out there with superior perfomance, this one suits me well like an extension of my body.

Taiwan

A few pictures from my trip to Taipei earlier this year. I was shooting some people down there for the annual report of a global insurance company.
After the job was done, I had half a day to tour a city which I have never been to. Taipei was very similar to Tokyo in the way the the whole city felt, and the way people dressed. The people were very nice and helpful. However, the people here seem to take their religion much more seriously as you can see from the crowd at Longshan temple during a regular week day. The serene waterfall located at the entrance to the temple is such a contrast. Third picture is taken from behind the driver's seat of an airport limo bus heading for Taipei Int'l Airport. The bus pulls over to make a short stop, and a woman pops in to drop off a package like a drug deal. Next thing you see is the driver chowing down on his lunch with chopsticks while he drives. Now, that would be the fastest way for the driver to lose his job here in Japan. Two countries similar and very different.
